I have a sort of weird thing with Brandon Sanderson where I really like him as a person but I have never been able to get into his books. I feel similarly about John Scalzi. Great guy, I follow him on social media, I feel like i *should* like his books, but I just do not.
I totally get that, especially Scalzi. I've only read Old Man's War and Starter villain, the former is still one of my favorite sci-fi series and the latter...well I liked how short it was. Based on those two, I'm morbidly curious what his political stance even is but after I went down that rabbit hole with Heinlein I try to avoid learning about creatives politics if I don't already know their stances. TBF Heinlein was pretty obvious, he just mirrored my own political trajectory and positions too closely, which usually makes me suspect someone might also be a dumbass.

Almost the same for me but it was about 2 or 3 years ago after reading a bunch of grimdark fantasy, everything else feels like I'm reading a children's book now and makes it hard to get invested, that's pretty much what steered me into my ongoing horror binge.

I actually didn't think I would like historical adventure type fiction until I got sucked into the Baroque Cycle so I'll definitely look into those. Murderbot has been bouncing around on my radar a lot as well because it's super popular on myanonamouse and frequently gets mentioned in the subreddits I scour for recs as well.

There have been a couple people that I started following on substack and then found out after weeks/months that they were very well known creatives/former Secretaries of Labor but existed outside the content walls I've put up to try to preserve my sanity lol
