My test cards came in and I'm kind of torn on whether or not they will work. The heaviest of them is 350gsm and im not sure it qualifies as "card stock" even. Im not sure its even construction paper thickness. I could make map tiles out of tokens (they actually have a "map tile" size) and that is 2mm thick so thats plenty strong, but its also 4X the price.
The other option is to do a normal board or maybe a double sided board, and block it out like heroes quest does it. I'm not a huge fan of that, but that is actually a lot cheaper.

Okay back on my shit today since im forced to be at work.
I've been looking at other sites that do custom board printing. Print & Play is sort of the big one, but there are others and they have different sizes of shit and different prices. They're less of a known quantity but are generally cheaper than P&P.
These guys: https://www.thegamecrafter.com/make/products/SmallSquareBoard have 4x4 inch boards, for $12/8 pieces, double sided print. That's a couple dollars cheaper per sheet than P&P's 4x4 token prices. Getting 48 map boards would cost about $71 dollars which is not quite double what it would be to get them on cards from P&P. However if I get similar "board" pieces from P&P it would run $160.00 for 48.
What I want ideally is something between card thickness and chipboard thickness, but nobody seems to do that.
The other problem, apart from the price of getting real "board" tiles, is storing them. 48 cards store easy, 48 2mm thick tiles require a lot of storage space.

Entrance from your boat to a map. I decided to do 3.5X3.5 inches, I can just scale it up if I end up doing 4 inch tiles, no big. 3X3 is better, I think, because it gives me a center tile for entrance/exit.
Im still experimenting with what I want the grid to look like.
